Texas Rep Joaquín Castro To Run For Congress
Current Texas State Rep. out of San Antonio Joaquín Castro is set to run for a newly-redistricted congressional seat, which will probably see some minor adjustments in court, against longtime Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett of Austin. We’ve hinted at this before, of course, Dr. Henry Flores noted it, and I’ve been tweeting and chismeando-ing the past few days about it, too.
In a way this is giving the Republicans in Texas exactly what they wanted: infighting between the Democrats. But, given the way that party redistricted the lines, there’s little choice. Thus, this pits the older, more white Democratic machine against the younger, fresher Latino Democratic machine of the future — or does it?
Last night at a NALEO event, Castro and Doggett were both working the room. The chisme mill has been running on this for a while now folks and it’s going to be an interesting run. We’ll be speaking to soon-to-be-former State Rep. Castro later today and we’ll let you know what there is to know.
For more information, check out the interviews we did with Castro here, here and here.
