Trump’s alternative election reality: “illegals” stole my popular vote
By Victor Landa, NewsTaco (2.5 minute read)
I was going to start by headlining this Donald Trump story like this: “Yes, he actually said that.” But it would imply that President Trump had said something uncharacteristic. I’ll let you decide.
This is NBC News’s headline:
Trump Again Makes Debunked Claim: ‘Illegals’ Cost Me Popular Vote
And lead graph:
“At the top of President Donald Trump’s agenda for his discussion with congressional leaders Monday night: relitigating the campaign, including saying “illegals” voting deprived him of a victory in the popular vote.”
[pullquote][tweet_dis]Trump mentioned that 3 to 5 million“illegals” voted in the election and cost him the popular vote.[/tweet_dis][/pullquote]It’s not as if there aren’t more substantive things to report about Trump, but he keeps saying things that make him sound inane and thin skinned. This time he was meeting with a bipartisan group of congressional leaders, talking about the 2016 campaign when he mentioned that 3 to 5 million “illegals” voted in the election and cost him the popular vote.
So, yes, he actually said that.

And after the meeting some of the GOPers who were present played it off as if it didn’t happen. Speaker Paul Ryan put out a statement that read, in part: “The speaker and President Trump are eager to continue moving forward on their shared agenda to jumpstart the economy and get the country back on track.”
No mention at all about the illegal vote thieves.
