Update: No Latinos on Trump’s Cabinet *smirk*
So far, zilch. There are no Latinos in the President-elect’s nascent cabinet and inner circle.
We’re keeping watch on it because you have to start at some point – now seems as good a time as any. The early observation is that all of the five picks for Trump’s cabinet, so far, have been white men. (I’ll pause here for the olbigatory . . . ) Not that there’s anything wrong with only white men. Not that we expected any different.
So we’ll go to the next, albeit tempotrary, level of influence – people in his transition team.
There’s one recognizable Latino name that rises from the bunch: Carlos Diaz Rosillo. He lectures at Harvard University and has taught a class called “The Road to the White House” where he discussesed Trump’s presidential campaign.
An NPR list of influentials in the Trump circle has his name listed first under “Executive authority advisor.”
I think that means he’ll be one of eleven folks who will have the President-elect’s ear on how far his presidential authority stretches – either that or they’ll have the task of reigning Trump back on stuff he wants to do but can’t.
But that’s it. No other Latino name appears on Trump’s presidential event horizon. Then again, he never promised he’d be inclusive.
We’ll keep watching.
