Julian Castro warns of ‘severe consequences’ of Trump’s win for his community

As the funereal Clinton campaign wound down its election-night event, one of the top Latinos in U.S. government told the Daily News he’s alarmed at what might be in store for his community.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, who Clinton considered as a possible running mate, looked as shell-shocked as the rest of Clinton’s supporters as he walked alone through the Javits Center shortly before Clinton’s team announced at 2 a.m. that she wouldn’t concede this night.

“This election has real, meaningful and negative consequences for very good people in our country. As much as folks will talk about the politics of it, it’s such a departure from the direction we’ve been going in in our country that it has severe consequences. My hope is that he will be more of a statesman and will take more of a longer view and unifying approach than he has during the campaign,” Castro told the Daily News, pointing to the 600,000 DREAMer immigrants who are here legally only by an executive order that Trump has promised to rescind on his first day in office.
