This Short Film Explains the Essence of Dia de Muertos In Three Minutes
By Victor Landa, NewsTaco
It’s a simple premise: the dead are not dead as long as we remember them.
In Dia de los Muertos, an award-winning student animated film, a young girl is transported to another world where the dead celebrate with music, food and dance. It’s a three-minute short that oozes cuteness and goes quickly to the essence of the celebration of the Day of the Dead.
That other world is the place of our memories where loved ones live, and Dia de Muertos is the day when those memories become palpable and we dance and eat and laugh with them.
It’s meant to be joyous, and that’s what I like about this film. It’s not new. It was produced in 2013 and earned its directors, Ashley Graham, Kate Reynolds, and Lindsey St. Pierre, a Student Academy Award.
