This Saturday, December 12, Mexican Catholics celebrate one of the most important holidays of the year–the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Worshipers sing mañanitas, songs of praise early in the morning, and buy roses in her name.   These celebrations commemorate the day she appeared to Juan Diego on Mexico’s City Tepeyac Hill in 1531.

Ten years ago, I wrote my first tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe as anofrenda, an offering, while my mom fought cancer.  This October, we gratefully celebrated another birthday with my mom.  My essay aired on NPR’s All Things Considered.
