How an Omaha couple fulfilled their dream of opening a bakery

Before Valente Gonzalez and his wife, Jazmin Dominguez, began monthslong preparations to open a bakery, they splurged and went on a two-week vacation, taking their young son to Disneyland, SeaWorld and Universal Studios in Los Angeles.
“I figured we wouldn’t take another vacation for a long, long time,” said Gonzalez, 26, who opened Panchito’s Bakery and Panaderia at 9537 Q St. late last December.
So far, Gonzalez has been right: It will probably be some time before they can slip away again.
The road to being a business owner was long. It took several years to open the doors, including a year to write a business plan and, when unable to secure a bank loan, a year to save the funds. They’ve invested their entire savings in the business.
