Former activist urges Latinos to remember their history

These days, José Ángel Gutiérrez isn’t marching on city halls or organizing boycotts or creating a political party to challenge the power elites.
Instead, he’s been more focused in recent years on creating a written record of Mexican-Americans’ place in Texas history.
Nowadays, the 69-year-old university professor, attorney, author, and poet spends a lot of time asking himself, “Where have all the Chicanos gone?”
As a prominent figure of the Chicano movement of the 1960s and one of the founders of the Raza Unida Party, he’s naturally concerned about the issue.
