At Fifteen, Latina High School Scientist Is Making World-wide History

Meet Samantha Marquez, junior at the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, a magnet high school in Richmond, Virginia. With a career in scientific research that started in 7th grade, Samantha has a made a name for herself in the international scientific community with her revolutionary research into 3-D microtissue construction.

As detailed on a webpage dedicated to her accomplishments at a-c-i-f.org, Samantha has already worked vigorously in collaboration with researchers from Texas A&M, Harvard, Georgia Tech, and Arizona State University to obtain groundbreaking results. Samantha started her research in collaboration with Professor Tony Garcia at Arizona State University (BioEng. Dept.) and Professor David Weitz and Dr. Tommy Angelini at Harvard University (Physics Dept.) at the mere age of 12 years old. Since then, Samantha has developed a unique network of collaborators and mentors.
