Dropping the “I” Word: Fox News vs Fox News Latino

By Victor Landa, NewsTaco
A really interesting piece today in Media Matters about how two faces of the same Fox TV coin cover the same issue.
Specifically, the recent news that the Associated Press was dropping the use of the “I” word in it’s venerable stylebook. Fox News headlined the story with a picture of a person jumping over a tall fence (as seen above) – I guess one should intuit that the person is an immigrant and the fence is a border fence. The caption reads: “AP Rules: Don’t Call Him an… ILLEGAL?”
Fox News Latino, in contrast, covered the same story with a picture of a woman holding a sign that reads: No human being is illegal.
The bodies of the stories differ as well.
The Media Matters piece calls the differences pandering to two audiences. But you can read for yourself and tell us what you think.
