Texas Bank must pay Latino Customers $700,000 to Settle Discrimination

The Texas Champion Bank of Alice, Texas (in South Texas, roughly 50 miles West of Corpus Christi) was caught charging Latinos higher fees for loans than what it charged it’s non-Latino customers. I guess they figured that in li’l ole’ Alice no one would notice or care.

But, they were breaking federal law by doing that, specifically the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA). So they got busted and are going to have to pay $700k for it.
