Latinos less certain than others about voting, Pew survey says (Los Angeles Times):  It seems the American media has discovered another Latino paradox: Latinos favor Obama, but they’re not that enthusiastic about voting. This article is chock-full of numbers and percentages, if you’re into that stuff. It even divvies language dominance and political tendencies.

Arizona-Style Immigration Laws Hurt the Economy (Forbes): A point of view about the anti-immigrant laws that hasn’t been given it’s due airing: the economic cost of it all. It’s a compelling argument that takes the cost of E-Verify for small businesses into account as well as the increased risk of investing in a business when it can all be lost over an employee  document verification mistake. And the argument is put forth by a reputable business publication. God back-pocket fodder for discussions.

Fla. education board OKs race-based academic plan (USA Today): I had to read this twice, to make sure i had understood ti correctly. And yes, it’s true, the state of Florida has different educational achievement goals for different students depending on their race and ethnicity. Here’s a tidbit: “The plan…calls for 90% of Asian students to be at or above grade level in reading by 2018. It expects whites to be at 88%, Hispanics at 81% and blacks at 74%.” I can’t make this stuff up- you gotta read it to believe it.

Richard Carmona and Jeff Flake Heat Up Battle for Arizona Senate Seat (Fox News Latino): This race is heating up in ways few people thought it would just a few weeks ago. So it’s worth noting and following, especially since the race is brewing in Arizona, where Latino voters are beginning to flex their political power in earnest.
