2012 ALMA Awards Nominees Announced

By Veronica Villafañe, Media Moves

The nominees for the 2012 Alma Awards were announced today. Very few Latino newcomers have been added to the nominee list, which seems to have the same names every year.

Given the increase in demographics and purchasing power, more Latinos should be making it in the big and small screen, whether it’s in front of, or behind the cameras. Hopefully, that will continue to change.

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) created the ALMA awards in 1995, in an effort to counter negative stereotyping and promote positive images of Latinos in the entertainment industry.

This year’s show will be produced by Dick Clark Productions’ executive producers Orly Adelson and Barry Adelman along with Eva Longoria and Janet Murguía, President and CEO of NCLR.

The ceremony will air on September 21 at 8 pm on NBC. mun2 will present an ALMA Awards Red Carpet special and rebroadcast the show.

Telemundo will host the official ALMA Awards website at www.telemundo.com/almaawards.
