Romney woos Hispanics over economy (The Hill):  Mitt Romney is using Hispanics’ double-digit unemployment rate to argue that the key voting bloc should support him instead of President Obama.

Romney taps Gutierrez to lead Hispanic leadership team (CNN):  Carlos Gutierrez, the former secretary of Commerce, will lead Mitt Romney’s Hispanic Steering Committee, the presumptive Republican nominee announced Wednesday.

Would picking Rubio for VP be an insult to Hispanics? (CNN):  David Axelrod, President Barack Obama’s top campaign strategist,said to Univision that putting Rubio on the ticket would be “an insult to the Hispanic community … if Gov. [Mitt] Romney thinks that’s sort of a get-out-of-jail-free card for all of the things and the positions that he’s taken.” My first thought was, “Who made Axelrod the barometer for the entire Hispanic community?”

Jobs Report: Unemployment Hits Latinos Hard (Latina.com):  The Bureau of Labor and Statistics has released a new jobs report, which showcases that Latino unemployment rates increased from 10.3% to 11% in April. The economic recession has also hit the African American community, which has an unemployment rate of 13%. The numbers reflect how deeply Latino workers have been affected by the job market with unemployment rates that are three points higher than the national average of 8.2%.

Monthly Latino Employment Report: Latino Workers Contribute to Colorado’s Economy (NCLR):  The 2010 Census national data show that Colorado ranks among the top ten states with the largest proportions of Latinos and the largest growth in the Latino population between 2000 and 2010. Today, Latinos play an integral role in Colorado’s labor market and economy and will continue to do so in the future.
