Have A Coke In A Bag And A Smile In El Salvador

By Voxxi

The familiar Coca-Cola bottle is as iconic as the Playboy bunny ears, the Mac apple or the three-pointed star that designates every Mercedes Benz.

So when the company found that its sugary soft drink was being poured into generic plastic bags for customers in El Salvador that did not want to pay the bottle deposit, they came up with a solution that protects their brand: a plastic bag in the curvy shape of the bottle.

But El Salvador is not the only country where people ask for Coke in a bag to go and drink it with a straw. The cost-saving practice has spread to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Cuba and even thePhilippines and the world’s biggest soda pop company says the bags are spreading throughout Central America, too.

Bonus: Coca-Cola officials have said the bag is bio-degradable.

Will we soon start to see Coca-Cola shaped plastic bags in the U.S.?
