Martin Quezada Appointed To Arizona House Seat

Martin J. Quezada was appointed to fill a house seat by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors this morning, two weeks after the Democratic representative who held the seat retired.

Quezada told NewsTaco that he ran against the now-retired Richard Miranda last year, and lost. What’s more, Quezada is currently running for a house seat, District 29, that encompasses much of the same area as District 13. An attorney by trade, Quezada told us that he wanted to pursue public office to serve his community.

The past two weeks have been a blur, as he submitted his name to be considered for the position, and awaited news of the supervisors’ decision. The district encompasses the west part of Phoenix, as well as some suburbs in the area. Now that he’s to take office, Quezada told us he hopes to find a way to better serve his mostly Latino constituency.

“Now, instead of helping people out one at a time, I can help a lot more at one time,” he told us, noting he grew up in the district.
