City Of Compton Settles With Latinas, District Elections May Follow

The City of Compton in the Los Angeles area is a historically black community, consequently it’s at-large city council elections have resulted in black candidates being elected. The now-majority Latino community  sought a piece of the political pie, when two Latinas sued the city, claiming this system disenfranchised Latino voters. The Los Angeles Times reported that the two parties have settled, resulting in a:

June primary ballot to allow voters to decide whether to make the switch to district elections. If the measure fails in June, it will go on the ballot a second time in November
