Mexican Actor Demián Bichir Nominated For Best Actor Oscar
Mexican actor Demián Bichir was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actor category this morning for his portrayal of an immigrant landscaper in Los Angeles and the film entitled, “A Better Life.”
The other nominees in the best actor category included: George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman and this Brad Pitt. The 48 year-old actor was nominated even while other actors who had been receiving nominations from other award shows, such as Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling, did not. In a statement, Bichir told US Weekly:
“I’m overwhelmed for having my name among those incredible actors. This could have never happened if Chris Weitz had not been the head of this film. He is my brother and I thank him deeply.”
Bichir has been acting since he was young, both in films such as the Mexican production “Sexo, pudor y lágrimas” and telenovelas, most recently in the U.S. show “Weeds.” Bichir’s nomination had picked up steam via grassroots support, such as a Facebook Page, as well as buzz in the Latino media.
The Oscars will be awarded on February 26 in Hollywood, California.
