Hablo Y Hablas: Rete

You might be asking yourself, “What’s ‘rete’ mean?” The answer is, nothing necessarily in and of itself, but in conjunction with another word, it can lend itself to mean “very” or “really” by way of emphasizing an adjective.

For example, recently I told a friend he was “rete guapo,” or very handsome. You can use the word in a variety of ways: rete bien, rete mal, rete loca, rete delicioso, etc. According to one source, the word can also be requete.

I’ve never used requete, but it sounds fun. You can use rete in almost any casual context, it’s slang, and it’s a fun word to throw into a bilingual conversation.
