Latino Voters Pivotal To Obama’s Electoral Map Strategy
The Obama Campaign released a video yesterday in which Campaign Manager Jim Messina outlines several scenarios in which the president could take the presidency via electoral college votes.
Latino voters figure importantly into this plan. One plan, “The West” includes Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. Latino voters in these states may not, by themselves, decide the election, but if they come out and vote they can help put the Democrats over the top — like they did in Nevada when they saved Senator Harry Reid in 2010.
As we reported, Latinos tend to vote in unified blocs in certain places, growing in the west.
Another key to Obama’s strategy is Florida, for obvious reasons, and then the one you may not expect — the Midwest. For similar reasons as in Nevada, if Latino voters are mobilized, they might push the numbers up just enough to give the Democrats a win.
