How To Make Tamales, The NewsTaco Way

How do you plan a modern tamalada?

We are all busy, and have also said things to do, but this time of year is still a great time to get together for a tamalada,  or even just generally speaking.  For those of you who don’t know, a tamalada is an annual gathering of family and friends to make tamales — a  traditional Mexican Christmas dish —  that often turns into a round of  gossip, storytelling, jokes, and general merrymaking.

This year at NewsTaco’s tamalada we took the shortcut by buying prepared masa at local Mexican grocery stores, making the chile for the pork filling with store-bought chile, and enlisting the help of a group of women to make the tamales faster.

Because, as you may or may not know, tamales take a long time to prepare, not only because they are labor-intensive, but they take some time to cook. In any case, below is a video of our tamalada exploits, may your tamalada  be as much fun as hours and happy holidays from us here at NewsTaco.
