AFL-CIO Report Documents “Humanitarian Crisis” Of Alabama’s HB 56
The AFL-CIO sent us a link to their report, “Crisis in Alabama: Investigating the Devastating Effects of HB 56” which “details what a delegation of prominent African American labor leaders saw in November when they traveled to Birmingham to document the impact and aftermath of HB 56 in the context of the ongoing civil rights struggles.”
Here are a few highlights, here’s the report:
- HB 56 impacts fundamental human and civil rights on a broad scale, not just immigrants’ rights.
- The law has a particularly negative impact on children and families.
- The labor movement should address the anti-immigrant laws in the context of defending all laws that attack working people.
- The labor movement needs to develop a strong, rights-based response to these laws, and continue to push for immigration reform on the national level.
