Happy Friday From Monica Gastelumendi!

When most people think of jazz music, the Andean South American nation of Peru isn’t normally what comes to mind. But Peruana Monica Gastelumendi, who currently resides in the U.S. and studies Fine Arts at the University of North Texas, is proof that Lima offers talent of substance to the world jazz scene.

Gastelumendi also helped start the organization Jazz Jaus in Lima, a non-profit music school that strives to change lives through music.

Jazz Jaus trains students in the art of jazz and classical music and holds concerts and other community events in attempt to promote interest and change the lives of young people throughout Peru.
