Guapura 101: Post Thanksgiving Cleanse

Let’s just say you ate a bunch of stuff you normally don’t during Thanksgiving. Let’s say that you feel nasty. Let’s say that you wish you hadn’t eaten all those slices of pie. Well, we cannot go back in time, but what we can do is use something healthy to get back to normal.

I am referring to nopales, of course, which I’ve found to be especially good for, um, ridding your body of toxins let’s say. You can eat them cooked or make a licuado (smoothie) and it works either way, but if you want fast action I’d recommend the licuado.

All you need is a blender, some cut raw nopales (grocery store or Latino grocery store), fruit juice and veggies. I like to use spinach or Romaine lettuce, plus cucumbers, then you can add orange or pineapple juice to taste. I suppose you could even get fancy and add mango or papaya, put it all in the blender and voilà! The point of the smoothie isn’t taste — remember that — the point is the fiber!

So make one of these for yourself when you’ll have access to a bathroom and I can practically promise you that you’ll be feeling cleansed within no time. Or do you have another cleanse tip?
