13 Arrested In Alabama Protest
A total of 13 pople were arrested yesterday in Montgomery, Alabama after a protest in front of the Alabama State Legislature. The undocumented students, their parents and supporters were protesting Alabama’s HB 56, the most stringent state immigration law in the country.
Those arrested ranged from 17 to 57 years old and were undocumented immigrants from all over the country.
More protests may be planned in Alabama in the future, at least one is set for Birmingham, Alabama later this month by a Congressional delegation on November 21 also to protest the law. That will include the following members of Congress:
- Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois;
- Rep. Joe Baca of California;
- Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus Yvette D. Clarke of New York;
- Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Charlie Gonzalez of Texas;
- Rep. Al Green of Texas;
- Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Raul Grijalva of Arizona;
- Congressional Hispanic Caucus Immigration Task Force Chair Luis V. Gutierrez of Illinois;
- Immigration Subcommittee Ranking Democrat Zoe Lofgren of California;
- Rep. Grace Napolitano of California;
- Rep. Terri A. Sewell of Alabama; and
- Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas
