Bien Hecho: Former Latino Astronaut Running for Congress

Engineer and ex-astronaut Jose Moreno Hernandez, son of Mexican immigrants and a man whose life story embodies the American dream, recently announced that he will be running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

According to Recordnet.com, Hernandez will run as a Democrat in the newly drawn 10th district in San Joaquin County, California, a place where he spent most of his childhood, including some summers spent harvesting in the fields alongside his parents.

Hernandez is expected to officially announce his candidacy today. If his bid is successful, he’ll add politician to his already impressive resume of NASA materials-research engineer, astronaut, and executive director at a Houston based technologies company.
