Latino Civil Rights Figures: LULAC

LULAC stands for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). The organization was founded in 1929 as a way to combat discrimination and empower Latinos in the U.S. The organization got it start in California, and then in Texas, and has been advocating for Latinos for decades.

The group does lots of things, including supporting court cases, voter registration drives, public involvement like health fairs and tutoring programs, as well as scholarships. The group bills itself as the oldest Latino advocacy group in the country and has, historically, been rather conservative, as evidenced by its initial exclusion of non-U.S. citizens and promotion of assimilation for Latinos.
