Guapura 101: What To Do About Cuticles?

Not only is cuticle hard to spell, they’re also hard to deal with. I know growing up my best friend had the most sensitive cuticles so when we would give each other makeovers, my 13 year-old self would inevitably make her bleed. Debbie Downer, anyone?

Now that I’m all grown up, I still have trouble with these darn things. Part of the problem is that I don’t really moisturize my hands like I should, but then again, if you do stuff to your nails, eventually you’re going to have to deal with cuticles. Here are a few tips for how not to suffer at the hands of, well, your hands.

  • Pushing back your cuticles does make your nails grow faster, so if you want longer nails it’s an option.
  • But usually it’s best to do so after you get out of the shower or the pool — when your skin is moist with water.
  • Lotion is always good for your entire hand, including your cuticles, not just your fingers and palm.
  • Don’t be too rough — if it hurts, stop. Soak your hands more, or just don’t push them that far.

So cuticles aren’t the most important thing in the world, but if you find yourself wanting to mess with yours, hope these tips are helpful!
