Mother Punishes Son With Chile, Could Go To Jail

An Alaska woman was convicted of misdemeanor child abuse after she poured hot sauce in the mouth of her adopted Russian son after he lied to her. Not only that, but she videotaped it and submitted it to “Dr. Phil.” Really. The Associated Press reported:

A woman who squirted hot sauce into the mouth of her adopted Russian son for lying about getting in trouble in school has been convicted of misdemeanor child abuse in what prosecutors said was a ploy to get on the “Dr. Phil” TV show.

Jessica Beagley, 36, made a videotape of how she punished the boy and submitted it to the show. The tape shows Beagley yelling at the crying boy, then tipping his chin up and pouring hot sauce in his mouth.

Beagley then had the screaming boy stand in a cold shower for sword-fighting with pencils in school.

Beagley faces a maximum punishment of 10 years probation, a year in jail and a $10,000 fine. Hijole, I guess your definition of “child abuse” (heheh “chile abuse” was what I just typo-ed, ha ha) depends on your culture because I know plenty of people who ate chile since they were kids. Even chiles piquín!

Thanks to Gustavo for the tip and for begging the question: was it Tapatío or Sriracha?
