Latinos Should Lead The Wealth Disparity Conversation

How should U.S. Latinos react to the news that Latino wealth fell 66% over the 4 years of the great recession?

The numbers are staggering. The effect is no less shocking. And yet we continue to let the issue be framed, by non-Latinos, as a Latino issue.

Truth is, this is a national issue and it will have repercussions on the economy in general and for generations to come. It’s a national problem that demands a national solution. The place that Latinos have in this conversation is to make sure that it happens as a part of the whole, as part and parcel of the national conversation about it’s future. And Latinos can’t let non-Latinos carry that water for us.

Latinos should be driving this conversation without apology and as a matter of concern for the entire nation.
