This Is What Racial Gerrymandering Looks Like
The old adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, although I think you might agree with me when you take a gander at the latest redistricting map to come out of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. If you recall, we spoke to attorney Rolando Rios who’s been working on redistricting cases for decades, and San Antonio Congressman Charles A. Gonzalez told us that the final districts would be decided in the courts due to the racially-charged nature of the current map.
The map in question actually splits Dallas-Forth Worth Latinos in seven different congressional districts. What does that mean? It means that Latino voters will never be able to come out in sufficient numbers to make a dent in the electorate because they’ve been sliced and diced to the point of vote dilution.
