Latino Beaten, Racially Insulted By Seattle Cops Sues
A Latino man, Martin Monetti, who as we previously reported was repeatedly kicked and taunted racially by Seattle Police’s Detective Shandy Cobane after being confused for a suspect in a robbery, is suing in federal court over the April incident. Here’s what happened:
…there was a report of a crime by a Latino-looking man, so the police went trolling for whatever Latinos they could find, found one and then not only screamed these words at him while he was lying face down on the ground, but then proceeded to stomp on him.
What did Cobane say to Monetti? This: “I’m going to beat the f***ing Mexican piss out of you, homey. You feel me?” So now the lawsuit alleges:
Martin Monetti’s lawyer, Lorena Gonzalez, says in the lawsuit that the anti-Mexican language and physical abuse went beyond what was recorded by a freelance videographer, saying her client was kicked in the head several times before filming started.
“All of this occurred while he was lying on the ground, complying with officer commands, and posed absolutely no danger to these officers,” said Gonzalez during a press conference attended by Monetti and his family.
I think my favorite part is that, in the end, Monetti became a witness in the robbery case the police mistakenly beat him up about. Below is a video of the incident, what do you think?
