Happy Friday From Violeta Parra!

It’s quite possible you’ve already heard a tune penned by Violeta Parra and didn’t even know it.

The innovative singer, songwriter and visual artist not only helped spread Chilean folklórico outside its borders in the 1950s and 1960s, she also wrote “Gracias A La Vida”, one of the most covered Latin American songs in history. Popularized in the Latin America by Mercedes Sosa and in the United States by Joan Baez, a 2010 version was also recorded by Michael Bublé and several Latin artists as a way to raise money to benefit victims of the Chilean earthquake.

We’ve selected four songs from her extensive repertoire, so enjoy and know there’s plenty more from this prolific artist.
