Mexico University President’s Next Step: Educate Latinos in US
The president of one of Mexico’s most prestigious and well known Universities says he wants to help Latinos in the United States attain higher education.
Rafael Rangel Sostmann recently retired from the Tecnológico de Monterrey where he was president since 1985. Fox News Latino reports that he’s now put his sights on the vast Latino community in the US. Speaking in Madrid, Spain, Rangel said
“The Hispanic in the U.S. is not reaching university, the first generations of immigrants are not completing their studies. We want to make an effort for them to achieve that…”
His plan is to establish a center at Georgetown University that will be a
“virtual space” linking all of Monterrey Tec’s community education centers in Mexico, the United States and Latin America.
“And we will also conduct a reflection about the mission of the university at the present moment. I feel it has to go outside its walls and integrate more with the community to carry out truly transformative projects,” Rangel Sostmann said.
Rangel gave no specifics about his plan, but did say he expects his successor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey to be named soon so he can dedicate himself fully to his new endeavor.
