Obama Convenes Latinos At White House For Immigration Talks

Two days after the dramatic Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama Bin Laden the President was back to work, business as usual.

And the usual business included the third meeting in three weeks of Latino leaders in the Oval office to discuss immigration. This seems to be a clear indication of the importance that the Obama Administration has placed on immigration, but more importantly to the Latino community.

We should consider that Latinos are not a monolithic, one-issue voting block. But we should also see that the immigration issue has been forced on Latinos with the surge of anti-immigrant laws and rhetoric. At best this is political calculus and deliberate planning. At worst it’s political theater.

The fact is that another group of Latino leaders met with the President.  The result has yet to be seen.
