Giffords Shooting Hero Loses Election

Daniel Hernandez has lost an election. It’s OK though, it’s his first – he’s been through more difficult trauma.
Hernandez is the intern who tended to U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot about three months ago; he’s credited with helping save her life.

Hernandez became an instant-albeit short lived-celebrity. He was media fodder for days after the attack and all the while he rejected being called a hero. He sought to be Gifford’s intern because he was interested in politics, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t still be.

The Huffington Post reports that Hernandez lost his bid to become student government president at the University of Arizona:

…Hernandez was easily beaten by James Allen in Thursday’s special election.

Allen received 66 percent of the 1,986 ballots cast. Hernandez placed second with 21 percent.

The original election was scheduled to be in March, but Hernandez and Allen were disqualified for campaign violations. If any of you remember university student government elections, it isn’t that rare.  What’s special is that these two got busted doing whatever it was they were doing.

There’s no word as to whether Hernandez will run again, or if he’s still interested in politics.
