The Latest, Hottest Chile Pepper Ever

Although we previously reported that the naga viper was the hottest chile ever bred at 1.3 on the Scoville scale (compared to 2,500-8,000 for jalapeños), there’s a new chile in town: the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T. Who comes up with these names, anyway? Obviously people who aren’t going to be eating them that often.

Anyway, the new Butch T from Australia is 1.46 million on the Scoville scale. The Australian farmer that produced the chile, Marcel de Wit, said that he and his employees must wear gloves when handling them or their hands will burn for two days afterwards. That’s intense.

Here’s a video, what do you think?
