Four Year-old US Citizen, Trapped in Guatemala, Returns Home

Remember little Emily Ruiz? She’s the four year old girl, born in the US, who had traveled to Guatemala with her grandfather. On their return trip the grandfather was denied entry into the country because of a decades old issue. We reported on the case last week. Emily’s parents, both undocumented, say that they were never given the chance to get their daughter. The immigration authorities claim that the Ruiz’s never came for the girl.

There’s good news. America’s Voice On line reports:

Emily’s is now on her way back to the U.S. and…her lawyer and others will describe her joyful reunion with her family at a news conference in New York.

She’s expected to arrive today, Wednesday, March 30. Emily’s father, Lionel Ruiz, says that the immigration officials told him he had two choices: have the girl return with her grandfather or have her “placed in some sort of detention center.” The family feared she would be put up for adoption.
