Unemployment claims dropped by 5,000 last week to 382,000.

Two planes landed without help from a control tower in Washington, D.C. yesterday at Reagan National Airport; it’s reported there was only one controller working, who had fallen asleep.

Couples in the rural U.S. are just as likely to be divorced now as couples in urban areas, according to Census data.

The U.S. Postal Service is set to cut 7,500 jobs, specifically about 2,000 postmasters (and the post offices they run), as well as 5,500 supervisors and administrative workers.

Fears have spread across Asia of radiation-contaminated Japanese consumer goods; many Asian countries are banning any Japanese food imports.
