The Daily Beast: No U.S. Latinas Are Awesome

Well, maybe except for one, Dara Torres, which The Daily Beast included on its list of “150 Women Who Shake The World.” The list includes actresses like Mia Farrow, Angelina Jolie and Ashley Judd.

And don’t get me wrong, I love Angelina and Ashley, but there was no Dolores Huerta, Sonia Sotomayor or Hilda Solis on the list. Not that the work Angelina and Ashley have done isn’t awesome, but I think Dolores Huerta would probably beat them both without breaking a sweat.

And this isn’t the first, nor the last time, that major media outlets overlook Latinos. It happens everyday, unless a Latino is a gang member or drug dealer, the likelihood they’ll make the top news story is slim. Why is this? Aren’t Latinos a growing force to be reckoned with, both culturally and economically? Yes, they are.

So what we have to do is take The Daily Beast and others to task when they pull this crap. What do you all think? Thanks to Lalo Alcaraz for the tip.
