Top story this morning is that President Barack Obama released a budget, meanwhile Latinos have a hard time accessing loans, there’s bad news about energy drinks, heart disease ravages Latinas and the rest of us abuse over-the-counter painkillers too much.
President Obama’s $3.73 trillion budget includes $1.1 trillion in deficit savings in the next decade via spending cuts and tax increases, but also a record deficit of $1.65 trillion.
Lending to Latinos has declined by more than 60% since the housing market began to collapse. African-Americans and Latinos saw a drop of 62% in lending in 2009 and dropped for Asians by 17%.
A study says that energy drinks could be bad news for children, especially any with diabetes, seizures, heart problems or mood/behavior disorders. The drinks, according to the University of Miami School of Medicine study, says that the drinks have no know benefits for children and effects haven’t been adequately studied.
Widespread use of over-the-counter painkillers could cause problems, according to a report from The Los Angeles Times, 80% of people in the U.S. use OTC painkillers like aspirin. Such use may include risks like overdose, upset stomach, organ failure, strokes, or death.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for Latina women, according to the American Heart Association.
