Mexico to the Winter Storm Rescue!
In South Texas we’re not used to this kind of cold. It’s been almost 36 hours of below 30 degree temperature, and that’s just nuts. Word has been sent throughout Texas that we need to collectively conserve energy. Translation: rolling blackouts.
We complain, not so much about the lack of energy but about the sudden (albeit temporary) death if our machines and appliances. Backup and save often have become recent mantras. Still, it’s not as bad here as it is in places like Chicago where folks were trapped in their cars for up to 12 hours, deep in snow, waiting for rescue on an urban street. We usually get these low temperatures once or twice a year, overnight when we’re acobijados and acurrucados.
Thankfully, Mexico has come to our comfort rescue!
The Austin-American Statesman reports:
Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission says it has agreed to transmit 280 megawatts of electricity to Texas between Wednesday and Thursday night.
The rescue power will stream through Laredo and Eagle Pass.
I imagine people in North and East Texas will be the most grateful. The ice storm is making life miserable over there. So when the rolling black outs stop, your home remains toasty and you don’t lose your work on your desktop, you know who to thank.
