BBC Blocks Racist Video – A Look at the Mexican Car
You can check it out for yourself. NewsTaco posted the incredibly vulgar segment of the Top Gear program (with a final “mme,” if you’re British) yesterday. But sometime in the middle of the night, or day UK time, the video was blocked. The caption where the video once was reads: This video contains content from the BBC Wroldwide, who has blocked it on copyright grounds. Good for us, that crap should never have been produced.
Of course, the BBC has as much a right to produce crap as they do to block it once they realize how bad it stinks. It’s their show, they can do with it as they please; blocking it pleases us very much. But don’t think that the flap over the idiot and racist comments is over. We’re watiing to hear the BBC’s official response. The network’s brass has made it clear that the incident will be addressed, but they need to lick a stamp on it and send it off.
On the other hand, this would have been great publicity for the makers of the Mexican car that the hosts of Top Gear (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May) ridiculed. But the car got lost in the controversy. The hundreds of Internet links and references to the incident mention the car as simply that, the Mexican car.
So, in an effort to right that wrong, here it is: It’s called the Mastretta.
I think it looks badass. And if you’re into such things here are some of the technical specs:
The turbocharged 2.0 litre Duratec four cylinder engine is located behind the cockpit and in front of the rear wheels with a transaxle configuration, connected to a MTX-75 five-speed manual gearbox.
With a power output of 250 bhp (186 kW ) and 250 lb/ft of torque, this powerplant is excellently suited to the MXT as it is compact and lightweight while delivering fantastic levels of high performance and drivability.
A bespoke engine management system was developed for performance driving: it has immediate throttle response and a consistent torque output throughout the rev range, while the turbo lag is unnoticeable. The shift lights at the top of the digital instrument cluster indicate the exact time to change gears, allowing the driver to make the most of engine performance.
Despite the impressive power figures, the MXT complies with Euro 5 emissions standards, and delivers an outstanding fuel consumption average of 25 miles per gallon.
OK, so it’s not your conventional chevy or efficient hybrid, but we have to give the manufacturers some props.
If you want one, deliveries begin this coming March, but you have to sign up on their website to get in line.
