Obama’s Pursuit Of Undocumented Workers Is On

President Barack Obama, the “liberal, socialist, communist” one, is upping the ante on his undocumented worker crackdown. Funny, doesn’t sound all that liberal when you say it that way. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Obama administration, via Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE under the Dept. of Homeland Security) is set to “intensify a crackdown on employers of illegal immigrants.”

Last year the administration did this, conducting more than 2,700 audits of different companies (twice that of the previous year) and levying about $7 million in fines against employers found to be employing people without papers. This is one way to realistically tackle the problem of unauthorized immigration — go after the employers — but at the same time it seems to be all fanfare, as it seems smaller employers were targeted over larger ones.

Which is to say, going after a roofing company in Los Angeles isn’t going to really get to the nut of the problem when you leave hotel chains or agribusiness out of the equation. In other words, Obama is using this tactic as a way to pander to anti-immigrant interests while pretending to do something about the problem. Sigh.
