NewsTaco To Go: Obama, DADT and Economy

Today there’s a bunch of stuff to watch out for with money, as both states and the feds are trying to cut services for us, watch out when you get your kids the flu vaccine and the military seems to be running its own telenovela.

  1. Members of the GOP in Congress are proposing steep cuts to the budget to the tune of $100 billion from non-defense programs (education, social services, etc.); this renewed fiscal conservatism is due partly to Tea Party-backed politicos.
  2. States may go bankrupt, so federal officials are figuring out if they can get out of their debt, such as public pensions. This means retired abuelitas’ and abuelitos’ cheques may be cut off so states can balance their budgets.
  3. Children are having more seizures in response to flu vaccines, usually about a day after they receive the Fluzone shot.
  4. President Barack Obama’s approval rating is high, about 50%, as he revs up for the 2012 presidential campaign, opening his headquarters in Chicago.
  5. Army suicides hit a record high last year and it turns out that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was costing the government about $53,000 every time they kicked someone out for being gay.
