Note to Bill Richardson: You Don’t Speak for Us

Don’t let the door hit you on your way out!

Geez. Not a day after former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson left office, a group of disgruntled Latinos have told him, in no uncertain terms, “you don’t speak for us.” Basically, ya callate.

They call themselves the Hispano Round Table; a group of, according to newswest9.com, 50 organizations from around the state. They passed a unanimous resolution saying Richardson

“was contemptuous and deceptive toward the Hispanic community.
The resolution also says he failed to create a state Department of Hispano Affairs as promised and misled prominent Hispanic groups with that promise.”

They say they want Richardson to stop saying that he speaks for the Latino community.

In the interest of full disclosure I have to say that I worked with folks of the Hispoano Round Table in 2004 when I was registering voters in New Mexico. I found them to be very interested in political work, accommodating, and frustrated with their governor.

Richardson’s response, through his spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos, was that he would “not lower himself to respond to such a ridiculous assertion.”
