Binge Drinking Growing Among Latinos

The percentage of Latino men who drink has increased, along with the percentage of people drinking alcohol nationwide, 67%, which is the highest it’s been since the mid-1980s, according to new research from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

I suppose the recession has hit us all hard, ey?

According to the data, more people overall were drinking in the country at the beginning of the millennium; this is defined as people having at least 12 drinks a year containing at least .6 ounces of alcohol.

When it comes to Latinos, 60% of them were classified as drinkers whereas only 32% of Latinas were classified as drinkers. These figures rose 5 to 7% for men across ethnic groups, with 53% of black men and 64% of white men classified as drinkers. Latinas also fell in the middle, compared to 47% of white women and 30% of black women classified as drinkers.
