Justice Sonia Sotomayor A Humanitarian, Liberal Voice On Court
There’s a great, analytical piece looking at Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and the work she’s done on the court so far. The piece tries to tease out her opinions, pet causes and general ideological take on the law from some of the writings she’s produced. Here’s an excerpt:
“Justice Sotomayor has completely dispelled the fear on the left that her background as a prosecutor would align her with the court’s more conservative members on criminal justice issues. And she has displayed a quality — call it what you will — that is alert to the humanity of the people whose cases make their way to the Supreme Court.”
Sotomayor’s inclusion on the court was an awesome event just for the sheer history of it. I’m not a lawyer (thank goodness) and have never studied law, but after reading the article, I have a renewed respect for her professionalism and am excited to see what her contributions will be in the future.
