Guapura 101: Stretching And Relaxation

Okay everybody, as someone who has done several types of martial arts, but yoga only once, I thought it would be a good time to talk about stretching. If y’all have been as stressed out as me, then you’re in some dire need of a good nights’ sleep, so here’s my tip this week.

Before you go to bed, stretch. When you wake up in the morning, stretch. I’m not talking yoga, hours’ worth of stretching, just a few minutes to get your body awake. You may scoff, but I guarantee you that you’ll notice the difference.

Stretching before you go to bed can help you relax, sleep better and feel good when you crawl into the covers. This article notes that you should focus on your major muscle groups, like: Calf, thigh, hip, lower back, neck and shoulders. You don’t have to do anything fancy, just what you can do and what feels good.

When you wake up in the morning, same deal, don’t overdo it, just enough to wake up your muscles. I usually focus mostly on my back and legs and just wiggle a bit, depending on what feels tight, and stretch until I feel the tightness loosen a bit, particularly in my legs. Try it and let me know what you think, ¿sí?
