Guapura 101: Zap Zits With Salt Water

I remember that when I lived in Brownsville — at the tip of Texas on the ocean and border — I had great skin. Part of this, I always supposed, was because I went to the beach often and would soak in the salt water. Now, I’m not one of those people who takes trips all over the world to soak in magical pools for healing (it’s not that, as a grad student, I can’t afford it, I just think it’s hogwash). But, I am a believer in the power of salt.

So, after a very stressful week in which I had twice as many espinillas as I usually do in an entire month, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make the sea come to me. Or, as this story explains, make a simple salt water mixture, apply it to your face and watch as the acne dies.

Part of the reason, according to this story and my personal experience, is salt basically dries up things. Like, living things, say, bacteria that live in your face and cause acne? Of course this also dries out your skin, so watch out. Also, and this is probably TMI, but if you have a fever blister (I affectionately call it herpes face) you can get rid of those suckers really quickly by washing them in a salt solution, too.

Happy Monday! Go zap those zits/fever blisters! Let me know if it works!
